Our Hope. Our Truth. Our Glory.
There's a belief in some denominations of Christianity that at the Eucharist (also called the Lord's Supper or Communion), heaven and earth intermingle in spiritual ways we can't always see or know. This is why the Eucharist and what happens during the Eucharist are referred to as 'holy mysterious.'
I adhere to this belief because I believe that the altar that Christians take Eucharist at (whatever is looks like, wherever it is) is the new Holy of Holies; the replacement of that inner sanctuary open only to the High Priests. It's the place where heaven and earth meet so that, at the exact same moment, the inhabitants of the heavenly and earthly realms can worship and proclaim the glory of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To me this is a beautiful representation of what is to come: heaven and earth combined as one glorious Kingdom of God fulfilled.
Eucharistic beauty came into further focus for me today. A beloved church member passed away. He is now a part of the chorus of saints who sing night and day for all eternity at the feet of God Almighty. And as heaven and earth meet at the altar, he and we at Imago Dei join 'together with all the Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven'* as we proclaim the holiness of God.
Our brother is no longer with us physically, but he and we still come together - transcending time, space, and spiritual plains - to worship and adore the Creator.
But more than that, we at the Eucharist, and throughout our walk on earth, look towards the time when we are reunited with our brother; whether we pass from this life to the next, or heaven and earth become one at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, whichever comes first.
This is our Hope. This is our Truth. This is our Glory.
