Prophecy of the Names

Isaiah's prophecy of the Messiah did not just stop at stating that "the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light." In fact he continued on prophesying, declaring to us some of the names the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, would be known by.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name call be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:5 ESV

As we continue through this season of Advent, as we continue looking forward to Christ's birth and His second advent, I wonder what these names of the Messiah mean to us.

How has Christ been a Wonderful Counselor to you lately? Have you let Him counsel you or have you ignored Him? (You would not be the first nor the last).

Or Mighty God; I wonder what that means. What is the reality of the presence of the Mighty God in our lives? What does that look like?

Everlasting Father: What kind of person is this forever father? Certainly He is much different from our earthly fathers, but how is He different? Does this difference matter?

Prince of Peace. What does peace feel like? In life, in spiritual matters? Does it mean Jesus is only the Prince of Peace in spiritual matters or is He Prince of Peace in earthly matters? Or is he Prince of Peace in all things spiritual and non-spiritual?
